Library Visits 2024

This blog describes the event which happened under the command of Library Commitee 2023-24. This blog describes the experience of leading the event and various visits to Libraries.

WHY WE ARRANGE THIS EVENT?

Every year the Library Commitee arranges two events under its watch. First one is Book Reading Day (Click Here to read the Blog of Book Reading Day 2024) and second one is Library Visits. As a student we have so many opportunities to open up our mind with new learning. While visiting the various Libraries and Places related to learning we are able to get this opportunity. And with this we also get the idea of how to arrange such kinds of events and visits.

LIBRARIES WE VISITED THIS YEAR (2024):-

This Year we - students of Department of English, MKBU, Bhavnagar - visited 3 Libraries.

1. University Library of MKBU, Bhavnagar
2. Gandhi Smriti, Bhavnagar
3. Barton Library, Bhavnagar

UNIVERSITY LIBRARY OF MKBU:-

Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University Library was established in the year 1979. Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University Library provides services as an information center to the lecturers & students of 24 postgraduate departments of constituent colleges of Bhavnagar university, researchers and administrative staff. This Library is under the command of Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University which has Various Departments, and all the students can borrow the books from here. Most of the books are available in the library so we don't have to buy it and can read it easily. Library of MKBU also has an OPAC which helps us find the books in just a few clicks. It also has machines which can let you borrow books in a few steps. The MKBU recently started an E-Library as well from which we can access material very easily. It was a great opportunity to explore and have such a library.

GANDHI SMIRITI, BHAVNAGAR:-

The Gandhi Smruti complex, popularly known as the Gandhi memorial, was inaugurated in 1955 and is located in the heart of Bhavnagar, directly across from a clock tower. The museum was founded in 1955 and now houses books, rare photographs, and memorabilia related to Mahatma Gandhi's life. (Click Here to go to the official website of Gandhi Smirti)

BARTON LIBRARY, BHAVNAGAR:-

The history of the establishment of the Barton Library is associated with the Chhagan Prasad Desai Library. It was the first initiation towards the establishment of an institute in the Kathiawad region. To satisfy the hunger of reading of Bhavnagar, late diwan Gaurishankar Oza established “Shri Chhaganbhai Desai Library” in C.E. 1860. This library was a small drop to later create the ripples of “Barton Library”. (Click Here to read more)

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:-

Library, for me it is not just a word but an emotion. What a cliche sentence, but it is true also. In the 11th standard I saw the library for the first time, so many books and an amazing world. My life changed totally and till this date I have read around 70 books. After visiting these libraries, I get to know what the true magic of a Library is.
